AREAS OF EXPERTISE


— Educational neuroscience: currently, much of my work is focused on bringing together cognitive neuroscience and education

— Educational Psychology and neuropsychology (and their overlap)


— Neuropsychology and neurophysiology of higher cognitive functions such as learning, language, memory, executive functions, attention and social cognition (and disorders therein)

— Reading comprehension: (1) the role of reading strategies, (2) the role of mental model construction, abstract reasoning, mental imagery and visualization, embodied cognition, et cetera, (3) the use of eye movement/fixation measures to study discourse processing, and (4) the development of (computer-based) teaching methods and educational tools

— Reading & dyslexia: general (definitions, diagnostics, subtypes, etc), theories of word recognition, neurobiology of reading and reading disabilities


— Behavioral and social-emotional disorders: externalizing problem behaviors (e.g. ADHD), internalizing problem behaviors, autistic spectrum disorders, deficits in social information processing
